University Hospital Basel and dacadoo collaborate on randomized controlled trial of wearables and continuous glucose monitoring in cardiology

• 2 minutes read

Basel/Zurich 7th March, 2024

The Department of Cardiology at the University Hospital Basel and dacadoo, a Swiss-based digital health platform provider, are announcing a collaboration on MITIGATE-RF, a randomized controlled trial to investigate the potential role of wearables and continuous glucose monitoring to optimize cardiovascular risk factors in patients after cardiac rehabilitation.

The trial aims to assess whether having real-time, objective summaries of their lifestyle can nudge a patient to make healthier lifestyle choices that, in turn, improve their cardiovascular risk.

The trial is conducted at the University Hospital of Basel’s outpatient cardiac rehabilitation center KARAMBA, while dacadoo provides support with processing the wearable data:

“The University Hospital of Basel is continuously striving to provide the best possible care for their patients. After a serious event such as a heart attack, cardiac rehabilitation is a key factor in regaining trust in one’s own body as well as improving well known risk factors to mitigate future events. With the continuous emergence of new digital health tools, it is important to evaluate possible benefits for all patients. Since the collection and processing of these abundant amounts of data are well outside the scope of a physician’s everyday work, the University Hospital Basel is looking forward to be collaborate in our endeavor with a Swiss-based digital health platform provider.”

Paul Windisch, MD, Chief Medical Officer at dacadoo, said: “As we are a company that creates science-based innovation in the lifestyle and prevention space where randomized controlled trials are the exception, having the chance to contribute to the creation of high-quality evidence for these technologies is an exciting opportunity.”

The trial will start recruitment in Q1 2024.
